V.Ships has won an award for 'Seafarer Welfare 2010' by a prestigious shipping publication.
Sailor Today is an international shipping magazine which presents news and editorials on the issues affecting seafarers to a readership of over 50,000. Its annual awards ceremony in India is seen by many as the ‘Oscars’ of the shipping industry. Award winners are nominated by readers and companies, and a panel of judges comprising industry luminaries makes the winning selection. This year's award's ceremony was attended by over 1000 people.
This award is not only an excellent promotion for the V.Ships brand but also recognition of the actions we are taking ahead of the implementation of the new Maritime Labour Convention--MLC 2006. As highlighted in VNF 208, MLC 2006 is expected to come into force in 2012 and has been hailed as a new bill of rights for seafarers by setting minimum standards on issues such as seafarer conditions of employment, accommodation standards, recreational facilities, food and catering, health protection, medical care, welfare and social protection.
Congratulations to all involved who helped V.Ships win this award.
