2006 has been an important year for V.People as we have continued building on the core competences and global spread of the V.Ships crewing offi ces, we have achieved signifi cant success in building bespoke outsourcing solutions for the offshore and energy sectors through the V.People Energy brand. These have included recruitment, competence assurance, training, localisation, payroll and manpower management.
Our central aims have been to provide client value; to control costs; to improve productivity; to address the acute manpower shortage in the industry; to solve specifi c problems; and to engage in profi table manpower planning. Central to achieving these aims has been the development of robust competence assurance systems. A highlight this year has been our support work in the Gulf of Mexico in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina – this came about as a direct recommendation from Shell following our work on the FPSO Bonga off the coast of Nigeria.
Group resources have provided the backbone for our operations, enabling us to draw not only on the network of 30 recruitment offi ces worldwide but also the group training centres, welfare offi cers, discounted air fares from V.Ships Travel, insurance, legal, centralised offshore payroll and technical services.
In 2006, the group’s contract crewing services was re-launched under the V.People Marine brand and we’ll be making signifi cant investment in recruitment centres, seafarer career progression and development, welfare and training.
Looking ahead, I am confident that the V.People brand will build on its successes in the Energy sector and that we will be able to offer the same value to new clients as we diversify into other sectors.
