V.Ships Ship Management

V.Ships is the world’s largest ship manager with vessels ranging from the largest tankers and containerships to smaller specialist scientific exploration ships and everything in between. Today’s environment presents many challenges, through which we have achieved much as well.

Challenges
Finding and retaining good officers and crew is a major challenge. Another is to ensure instinctive regulatory compliance both ashore and at sea. Our Manpower Supply division has worked extensively with seafarer education and training. Equally, we have set up an in-house training programme for superintendents, audited externally by the RINA classification society. In time, this training programme will cover shore staff who, at the end of the course, will take an examination for which there will be no exceptions.

Achievements
We have steadily strengthened our position in Asia by forming China International Ship Management in partnership with China Shipping Group, initially to manage four of the world’s largest containerships and ultimately to manage eight China Shipping new buildings, at 13,300 teu, the world’s largest. Another important development has been the establishment and successful development of our Management Transfer Unit. Now in its second year, MTU is a dedicated pool of senior officers who specialise in rapid deployment during critical management situations.
